Antoni Donchev lives big band music in present tense

The people who want to be enriched and enraptured by music inspire Antoni Donchev as leader of The Bulgarian National Radio Big Band. Having taken up this position in 2010, he directed the orchestra to a new, very consistent jazz mode of expression, invited European music into its repertoire – and then presented it to the audience of Euroradio and on the Senza Sordino live-recorded album (Bulgarian National Radio, 2012). “My main idea about the big band is for it to be in the present. Drawing on traditions, we look for a very modern and very communicative language, so that we will be able to present to our listeners music that is interesting and exciting”, says Antoni Donchev in an interview by Svetoslav Nikolov that you can listen to here.
